The downtown core of Toronto always has hidden features that you may walk by every day but not notice. This is because most people walk around in tunnel vision, not noticing anything around them. All they see is what is in front of them. Well guess what? There is some pretty interesting architecture and art that creep up from all angles. I've had people ask me if most of my shots were taken in Toronto, they were. I look around all the time, I pull my head up and look at the buildings, my head isn't always in my smartphone like I see most people these days.
This smoke stack is right downtown. Some might know where it is, some may not. It's near Sick Kids Hospital. When I took the picture it was a particularly stormy looking day and cold I might add. But it worked for what I was looking for. I needed dark, depressed, deep, almost scary looking. Upon completing the edit I came up with this. The depressing feeling I had that day was gone. This hobby really helps get me into a great mood. When I go out and snap all these pictures, I listen to really dark music as it sets a mood for the shot. It adds feeling and emotion.
Then you come back to a sunny day, right at the magic hour. There it is again, the light and dark all in one crazy picture. This is why I hashtag most of my pictures on Facebook and Instagram with darklight, as it represents how I feel in one word. If you want to follow me on Instagram, I go by: brennaravenempire.
