Street Of Memories

The streets around my house hold so much interesting photo opportunities, there still is oldness, the same oldness that most of Toronto has hanging around if you are lucky to catch it. This traffic light is right at the corner of my street, I look at it everyday from this same angle. This day was beautiful, the sky was the perfect blue, that matched with the yellow of the traffic light. Mostly I took the shot because this post is so old. You just know that it's been there for many years, and will be there for many more years after this. These old poles are made of wood, which you don't see that often in cities like Mississauga, and the power lines run over the streets, which is another this the suburbs don't have much of. In Mississauga they started putting the power lines underground, as it was more logical and safe. Not saying that these poles aren't safe, but all it takes is for one old tree to drop and knock out the power to the whole block. Which did happen not too long ago. I still love the feel of seeing these old power lines. I miss the wires from the trolley buses though, they used to be up there for a long time, until they started coming down form age. So in turn they were removed.
This is another standard of Toronto, the crossover lights. They are still everywhere, even though most drivers ignore them. When I was still going to high school, I would cross one of these all the time and fear for my life. One time a cop almost ran me over because he wasn't looking, and swerved to a stop just missing me. So now I usually walk out slightly and wait for all the cars to come to a stop, unless there isn't any cars of course. My only worry is for people that may not be able to jump out of the way like me. Or a child that may not be paying attention. Drivers, always look. As for city beauty, they are a great addition to all Toronto streets.

These street lights are amazing, they are slowly disappearing, but still exist in older area of town. When I seen them as a young kid I knew I was in Toronto, I felt like we were almost ant Grandma and Grandpa's house. Funny that I live there now. In fact my Mom and I moved there in 1995, I still don't regret leaving Mississauga. Don't get me wrong, Mississauga will always be in my heart since I grew up there, but I love Toronto so much more. I would dream of moving to the big city when I was older, I just happened earlier as a teenager. So yes, I think of my Grandparents when I see these lights, and all the good times we had during my childhood.
